SPRING SCHOOL TOUR PROGRAM

Heritage Village Tour
*Some flexibility with the times to accommodate the different school arrival and dismissal times 

Grade 1-“Unlock Our History”: $6.00/student
The grade one program consists of a schoolhouse lesson with “Mrs. McTavish”, old-fashioned games and craft time, as well as a tour of Golosky House, Hill House, Hill Drugs, Trading Post and Trapper’s Cabin. Together they represent life in our community in the early to mid 1900s. The program is approx. 90 minutes and is offered in both the morning (9:15-11:00) and the afternoon (12:15-2:00).

Grade 2-“Unlock Our History”: $6.00/student
The grade two program consists of a schoolhouse lesson with “Mrs. McTavish”, old-fashioned games and craft time, as well as a tour of Trading Post, Trapper’s Cabin, Catholic Mission, Chateau gai and the Wop May building. All of this demonstrating life in our community in the early to mid 1900s. The program is approx. 90 minutes and is offered in both the morning (9:15-11:00) and the afternoon (12:15-2:00).

Grade 3-Pioneer Days:
Students will experience a day in the life of a pioneer by making butter, washing clothes, gardening, cutting logs, going to old fashioned school, and playing old-fashioned games to learn about life in
Fort McMurray in the early to mid 1900s. Pioneer Days runs from 10:00 am to 2:15 pm with a lunch break from 11:40 – 12:25. No preparation necessary for the day.

Grade 4- “Moving North”: $8.00/student
In this interactive program, students role-play families who are “moving north” in the early 1900s. Students are divided into “families”, and each student is given a role to play within their family group. Each family will visit 6 different places in “McMurray” in order to establish their settlement. Additional material is provided for teachers with the information package, as preparation is necessary and will enhance the students’ experience. Moving North runs from 9:15 am to 2:15 pm with a lunch break of 40-45 minutes.

Grade 5-“Fort of the Forks”: $6.00/student
Before Fort McMurray became a booming city, it was a tiny fur trade post known as “Fort of the Forks”. Students will participate in our  fur trade activity, where they will earn and collect furs to trade at our very own trading post. In doing so, students will learn about the people involved in the local fur trade right here in the fur-rich Athabasca region. This program is approx. 135  minutes long and is offered in both the morning (9:15-11:30) and the afternoon (12:00-2:15).
